ILKLEY Harriers’ Amanda Parnaby took part in Rudolph's Romp – a 24 mile event in the Southern Wolds. She finished in 5hr 51min. Also showing great endurance, Adrian Hall was 13th in the Gower Coastal Marathon in 4hr 27min. On the road, a team of Harriers wore a different type of red kit and ran a 5k race in Liverpool dressed as Father Christmas in the Santa Dash.

Emma O’Looney, Jacqui Weston and Sue Bickerdike had a wonderful time, and took 29 minutes to laugh and giggle their way around the course, surrounded by around 5,000 other people all dressed in the same clothes!

Down in Luton, more serious action was afoot, where Jeff Paget ran the Luton Marathon in a club age group record of 3hr 8min 10sec to be 38th overall and win the V55 prize.

Last weekend, a small band of Harriers did battle with the mud of the Bolton-by-Bowland fell race. Jamie Hutchinson was 16th in 55min 50sec, with Nick Pearce close behind in 61:44 to be 41st. Norman Bush was 72nd in 66:40 and Kate Archer 89th in 70:32.

The main event last weekend was the Calderdale Way Relay, in which Ilkley sported three teams. The men’s team of Steve Turland, Jamie Hutchinson, Dave Wilby, Tom Adams, Nick Pearce, Mike Baldwin, Jim Ryder, Jonathan Whittaker, Duncan Cooper, Ian Rowbotham, Paul O’Looney and Mark Mon-Williams ran the 50-mile off-road length of the Calderdale Way in a pair’s relay.

They finished in 6hr 55min 25sec to be 21st team home. The women’s team of Hel-ene Whitaker, Sally Malir, Kelly Harrison, Heather Dawe, Catherine Gibbons, Jenny Dybeck, Andrea Priestly, Tracey Greenway, Alison Eagle, Nicki Jacquiery, Alison Ben-nett and Diane Haggar were 41st overall and the second ladies’ team home in 7:29:35.

Finally, an Ilkley mixed team of Jo and Laurie Prowse, Amanda Newham, Sarah Fuller, Joyce Marshall, Jo Foster, John Coates, Kevin Gooch, Sue and Eric Morley, Paul Stephens and David Brown were 94th overall in 8:57:09.

Three Harriers were over in the Lakes for the Langdale Christmas Pudding 10k race in perfect running conditions.

Accompanied by a smattering of Santas and Elves, Andy Wiggans was ninth overall in 37:52. Richard Hinsley knocked another chunk off his personal best with 39:41 – his first time under 40 minutes for 10k – to be 24th. Vic Verecondi was 108th overall in 46:14.

A total of 16 Ilkley Harriers juniors raced in the second event of the Peco Cross-Country League series at Hall Park, Hors-forth two Saturdays ago.

In the two-mile race, Sam Hopkinson-Cook was second in 13min 03sec, Sam Haggar third in 13.09; Jack Cummings fifth in, 13.49; Lucy Williamson eighth in 14.41; Sam Wood ninth in 14.43; Rose Hagan tenth in 14.45; Scott Marshall 12th in 15.48; Isobel Hirst 14th in 16.23; Harriet Jackson 16th in 17.08; Joanne Williamson 17th in 17.27 and Anna Pickering 19th in 22.05. In the one-mile race, Will Tench was third in 6.07, Tom Cross fourth in 6.11, James Pickering eighth in 6.51, Alessandra Ricci 11th in 7.02 and Ella Taylor 15th in 7.53. The Complete Runner Cross-Country Series is finished for another year and the final results have been published, with Ilkley Harriers juniors producing some great performances.

In the under-11 girls’ category, Sarah Pickering and Elizabeth Westhead finished joint fifth and Jess Burgess ninth and, as a team, they were first. In the under-13 girls’ category, the team finished sixth, steadily improving as the races went on. The under-13 boys’ team finished fourth.

This league is very competitive and all the runners from Ilkley did well to produce the results they did.
