Fifteen-year-old Ilkley swimmer Sian Morgan competed on the world stage for the first time when she was selected to represent the English Schools in the World School Games in Doha, Qatar.

Sian, a pupil at Bradford Grammar School and a member of City of Bradford Swimming Club, was in fine form and came home with two personal-best times. She reached the final of the 400 metres freestyle, finishing sixth behind more senior girls. In the 200m freestyle, she was ninth overall and had the consolation of winning the B final in a time which was a Yorkshire junior record. Fortytwo countries competed at the Games, which included swimming, athletics and gymnastics and are held every four years.

As well as competing, the athletes experienced the culture of Qatar through a trip into the desert, which included camel racing.

Sian is grateful to City of Bradford Swimming Club, Bradford Grammar School and the Yorkshire & Humberside Schools’ Swimming Association for making the trip possible.
