IN an intense encounter at Ben Rhydding, the women's side were left frustrated after an incredibly dominant performance ended in a 1-1 draw against Gloucester City.
The hosts controlled the majority of possession throughout the match, dictating the tempo and creating numerous opportunities.
However, it was Gloucester City who broke the deadlock, capitalising on a counter-attack in the second half, much against the run of play.
Despite the setback, Ben Rhydding continued to press forward and were eventually rewarded with an equaliser. A brilliant moment of skill from Rachel Doherty saw her deflect the ball past the Gloucester keeper, completely blindsiding them and drawing the teams level at 1-1.
Though Ben Rhydding dominated large portions of the game and looked the more likely side to score, they were unlucky not to secure all three points. The match ended 1-1.
Despite the draw (dropping them to 5th in the league), Ben Rhydding can take pride in their commanding performance, and will look to build on this as they continue their campaign in Division One North.
Ben Rhydding men's first team edged out Doncaster in a tightly contested match, securing a 2-1 victory with a last-minute short corner goal.
The game began with intensity from the opening whistle. Just 28 seconds in, Myles Locke set the tone for a hard-fought battle, earning what might be the fastest green card of the season. Locke’s spirited performance continued, ultimately resulting in a yellow card later in the match.
Both teams held their ground in a scoreless first half, with Ben Rhydding’s midfield - led by influential captain Rob Ramsden - controlling play and dictating the tempo.
George Gamble was a standout, demonstrating sharp passing and positioning to keep Doncaster on their toes, while Ross McMillan’s relentless work ethic and commitment were evident in every challenge.
Early in the second half, Ben Rhydding finally broke the deadlock. Jez Notay found the net with a well-placed strike, capitalising on early pressure to put his team ahead. However, Doncaster soon equalised, pushing Ben Rhydding to dig deep for another breakthrough.
The pressure continued to build as the clock ticked down. Archie Normington thrilled the home crowd by taking down a difficult aerial pass with ease, creating a golden opportunity to regain the lead.
Meanwhile, Luke Lambert brought out his classic dummy move, cleverly beating a Doncaster defender to earn a crucial short corner in the dying minutes.
With just three minutes left, Will Musgrave stepped up and converted the short corner with a clinical finish, securing the victory for Ben Rhydding in dramatic fashion. Although Callum Franks was unlucky with a recurring hamstring injury, the team’s resilience and skill proved enough to earn the points.
This weekend the women travel to Olton and West Warwicks, while the men are away at Timperley who retained their 100% record last weekend with a 9-1 win over Oxton.
