Ilkley Town missed the chance to move into the Northern Counties East League Division One play-off places on Saturday.

They suffered an emphatic 5-2 defeat at fellow fast-starters Dearne & District, with that result keeping the Baht’atters sixth in the table.

The game was all over by half-time, as Dearne stormed into a 4-0 lead in just 35 minutes.

And when Brandon Burke completed his hat-trick two minutes after the interval, Ilkley looked like facing a humiliating afternoon.

But to the away side’s credit, they quickly got back into the game through Kevin Gonzalez’s penalty.

And they also had the last word too, as Tom Smith claimed a late second goal for Ilkley.

The Baht’atters are back in action tomorrow night, as they host FC Halifax Town in the West Riding County Cup first round.
