Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club’s grass courts hosted a tennis match last Friday between a Yorkshire Ladies team and a squad of students from Harvard and Yale Universities in the USA.
The Americans are on tour in England and Scotland before playing a match next month against a combined Oxford and Cambridge team at Wimbledon for the Seabright Cup.
ILTSC was represented by current members Alice Brook and Holly Huby as well as former junior Bella Gibson.
Four of the Yorkshire team: Brook, Sarah Copley, Millie Skelton and Orla Cooper used the match to warm up for the LTA Summer County Cup this week.
Harvard & Yale emerged victorious in a match of six singles and three doubles, with most of the matches being very close with a high standard of tennis.
The Harvard and Yale players have all been top ranked juniors in the USA or, in the case of Orla Ogilvy and Iveta Duajotaite, Canada and Lithuania.
Off the court, the Harvard and Yale ladies attended both the Men’s and Ladies’ finals at Wimbledon.
A bit closer to home, they enjoyed a trip to Malham Cove as well as a go on the Sue Ryder Zip the Cow at the Cow & Calf rocks above Ilkley.
For culture, the Harvard and Yale ladies headed to the RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon for a tour and performance.
And for 'culture' again, they also enjoyed nights out in both Ilkley and Leeds.
