ILKLEY Golf Club’s Huey Cunningham was left ruing a poor final round, after looking on course to claim the prestigious Bradford Open at the weekend.
The jewel in the crown of the Bradford Golf Union calendar took place over 36 holes at Bradford Golf Club on Sunday, with a 45-strong field battling it out.
Teenager Cunningham led at the halfway stage after shooting an opening 68, one stroke clear of reigning champion Richard Wheatley and Horsforth’s Archie Rowntree.
But the Ilkley golfer was unable to get close to matching that in his final round.
He shot a disappointing 77, which meant he had to settle for coming seventh in the competition at three over par.
South Bradford’s Oliver Tasker won the tournament, following up an opening 70 with a closing 69 to finish on three under par.
He beat Willow Valley’s Terry Brushwood by three strokes, while Wheatley, who had won the tournament three years in a row, came sixth.
