FOUR of Ben Rhydding Hockey Club Under 13s team have been selected for the UK Lions Under 14 squad following eye catching performances at the recent girls’ and boys’ Under 13s National Hockey Championships.
Alice Midgeley, Lucy Usherwood, Rita Box and Oli Yates had been selected from hundreds of players to represent the North East along with teammates as far afield as Morpeth and Hull.
The annual tournaments highlight the very best in girls and boys hockey and were held recently at the prestigious Beeston Hockey Club in Nottingham with hundreds taking part including teams from Ulster and Wales. Alice, Lucy, Rita and Oli did Ben Rhydding proud with Lucy winning Goalkeeper of the Tournament. All four have represented Ben Rhydding from an early age, as well as North and West Yorkshire. They now will now spend the next year training with the UK Lions Squad and some of the country’s finest coaches as well as travelling throughout Great Britain and Europe representing the UK in various tournaments and training camps.
