THE Ilkley Trail Race makes a welcome return after a three-year absence on Bank Holiday Friday 3 June.

A scenic 6.9-mile route with spectacular views over the Wharfe Valley and across to Ilkley Moor, it takes runners of all abilities to the less-explored north of Ilkley and up to Middleton Moor.

The race, organised by Ilkley Harriers, is an out-and-back loop through woodland, fields and moors, interspersed with some short road sections.

There's a good surface underfoot throughout and it's a great 'race' for first-timers, with a carnival atmosphere in store on the extended Bank Holiday weekend as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Race headquarters is just outside the Lido and it's a sociable start time too - 11.30am.

Because of the global Covid pandemic the event hasn't taken place since 2019 and new race organiser Neil Chapman says: "It's fantastic to have such a popular race back on the calendar and we're looking forward to welcoming back runners from throughout the region in what should be a special week."
