ILKLEY Cricket Club captain Henry Wilson hopes his side can "kick on", after putting on an eye-catching display to beat their noisy neighbours Olicanian.
The victory was only Ilkley's second of the season, in what has been a fairly frustrating campaign.
Eight games into the Aire-Wharfe Division 1 season, Ilkley haven't been able to show their worth as they sit in tenth out of a possible twelve, and accompanying their inconsistent form, game abandonment has ensured a real stop start season.
However, bouncing back from a poor defeat to North Leeds was key for Ilkley, and Wilson hopes the victory against local rivals Olicanian, will give his side the boost they need.
He said: "Saturday was a huge game for us because we've not had the start to the season we would have wanted.
"We had a really good win against Burley, earlier on in the season, but since then, we've been unlucky with the weather and fairly inconsistent.
"After a poor performance against North Leeds the week before, this weekend I wanted a reaction from the players, and I got one.
"Hopefully the victory gives us the confidence to kick on from now, but what I always say is, we shouldn't get too down on ourselves when we lose, but also we shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves when we win.
"This is the perfect example. It was a great performance against Olicanian, but we must try and take the positives into the next fixture to help us move forward."
The key ingredient to Ilkley's second win of the season may have been their batting, hitting a fine total of 309, as they stepped up first and set the pace.
And discussing his side's batting display, Wilson was quick to praise their performances.
He said: "I think what Saturday demonstrated, is that we are capable of racking up the runs.
"I think we were on a really good batting wicket which obviously helped, and then obviously winning the toss was big for us. I think Olicanian would have decided on batting first too.
"I had to say to the lads, what has been before and the disappointing batting performances we've had, they're gone now and it's all about focusing on the game in hand.
"As a batting unit, things came together well. The openers got us off to a good start and there were some really good contributions throughout the whole winnings, which gave us the platform to really kick on in the last ten to fifteen overs."
Wilson added: "To move this form into the next fixtures, I will look to keep a certain amount of consistency within the line-ups.
"I'm not one that likes to change things around too much. It will be little tweaks here and there, but I think reminding the lads that they have done well on Saturday, will certainly give them confidence going into the next game. We are not a team which is reliant on a couple of superstars to go out there and do it for us, but we rely on all eleven players to make meaningful contributions.”
Ilkley will host Otley this Saturday.
