NATIONAL League chief executive Michael Tattersall will depart from the role at the end of December.
Joining in November 2015, the 45-year-old had overseen "a period of sustained growth of the competition, increasing its profile and commercial value."
There had been growing discontent amongst club's regarding how the National Lottery funding of £10 million, to stage matches behind closed doors over the past three months, had been shared out.
Four sizes of payment, ranging from £90,000-per-month to £30,000-per-month, were issued to clubs rather than the suggestion to base where the support goes on likely loses had attendances matched that of previous seasons.
National League North sides Bradford (Park Avenue) and Guiseley both received the lowest amount in the bracket.
Tattersall said: “It has been a privilege to serve as the CEO of the National League."
“I would like to thank my colleagues, our clubs, our commercial partners and the wider football family for their support and fellowship over the last five years.”
National League chairman Brian Barwick added: “Michael has served the National League and its member clubs with great distinction.
"He has shown outstanding professionalism, a comprehensive understanding of the sport - its competitive framework and associated business, all building on his lifelong affection for the game.
“I have enjoyed a tremendous working relationship with him and, along with my fellow National League board members, wish him well for the future.”
