A PENALTY was enough to give Guiseley's under-19s the three points in their first National League Academy North D match of the season.
The young Lions clinched a 1-0 win over York City with an 81st-minute spot kick from Lewis Hey at Woodhouse Grove School.
Skipper Ollie Brown also played his part, leading the way with a great defensive performance to keep his side ahead.
In the first-half, chances were few and far between for either side with Guiseley keeper Hagie Damba generally commanding his area.
A bumpy pitch made it difficult to play flowing football and it rather became a battle of attrition with no quarter given.
The hosts gained a number of corners but they produced little and both sides made plenty of mistakes.
Defences were largely on top as both teams battled for supremacy. Prior to their goal, Guiseley had finally begun to impose themselves moving forward.
The victors always had an outlet in the game through first team squad member Nathan Newall.
The next time Guiseley's academy are in action is when their under-18s host FC Halifax Town in the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday (7pm). A trip to Bolton Wanderers awaits for the winners.
