GUISELEY Academy put in an impressive performance to win 5-0 at Sheffield FC in the FA Youth Cup and earn a home tie against FC Halifax Town in the third qualifying round, which will be played in the week commencing October 19.
Guiseley started on the front foot but had to recover from an early blow when the injured Asa Stevenson-Lowe had to go off to be replaced by Dexter Ball.
Undaunted, Dave Currie’s charges opened the scoring when Lewis Hey was chopped down in the penalty area. He dusted himself down to step up and fire the penalty home.
A Josh Stones shot was then saved by the goalkeeper but he could not hold on to the ball and the rebound fell to Haroon Bostan, who made it 2-0.
The young Lions took this two-goal lead into the break and kept up their momentum with an early second half goal.
Hey put in a good cross which forced poor Oliver Shepherd to put through his own net for 3-0.
It was soon 4-0, as the impressive Hey, whose father Nicky used to play for Guiseley’s first team, set up Darwin King with a good cross, which was nicely headed home.
Hey could soon follow his father into first team action, as he recently signed first team forms.
Guiseley were not done yet and Bostan netted his second of the night with a long range shot to seal another excellent win.
Eccleshill United’s under-18s joined Guiseley in the next round, after they earned a brilliant 7-1 home win over Harrogate Railway Athletic.
The Eagles’ youngsters opened the scoring on 31 minutes, before making it 2-0 with a penalty soon after.
A goal right on half-time made it 3-0 and although Harrogate pulled one back just after the break, Eccleshill soon restored their three-goal advantage.
Three more second half goals, including another penalty, wrapped up a thumping Eagles win.
They will play Seaham Red Star or Gateshead in the next round. That game takes place this evening.
