GUISELEY could not have got off to a better start to their Vanarama National League North campaign as they hammered Blyth Spartans 4-0 at Nethermoor.
There were four different goalscorers on the night for Marcus Bignot and Russ O'Neill side. Lebrun Mbeka, Hamza Bencherif, Kaine Felix and Mark Howarth all jumped on the scoresheet in the mauling.
The signs early on were certainly bright when Kaine Felix was dragged down in the box to hand the hosts a penalty in the second minute. Debutant Mbeka stepped up to slam home.
The Lions almost doubled their lead on two occasions before the 10 minute mark. Mbeka's header and Nicholson forced Pearson into making a couple of superb saves.
Soon after, the pressure continued through Howarth's powerful drive and a clearance off the line. Surely, their second was on the way!
Then it was the Felix's turn to test the Blyth keeper before Wafula narrowly headed over.
The skipper would be the one to make Bignot and O'Neill's half time team talk a little easier though. Bencherif leaped up above everyone from Howarth's corner to find the back of the net.
Things went from bad to worse for Spartans after the break when Elson received another booking for fouling Mbkea.
Nicholson and Mbeka both peppered Pearson's goal, but the stopper continued his great form to deny.
The latter came again though and slid through Felix who finished well to open his account for the new league season.
The home side were four up with 20 minutes to play thanks to Howarth's brilliant solo strike. The midfielder wandered past the Blyth defence and curled in nicely.
Bencherif's eyes lit up when he thought his 30-yard strike was about to bulge the net. Instead, Pearson did well to bundle it wide.
The managerial duo will be delighted with how their new signings fitted in to produce this faultless opening performance.
