OTLEY are back in form after a convincing 27-15 win at Huddersfield in their final National League Two North game before the winter break.
The first ten minutes were spent with the two sides exchanging penalties, and Otley looking to find a way through.
This happened when Brett Mitchell broke through and as he was tackled got the ball to Max Johnson, who passed to Ben Magee outside the opposition 22. Magee then jinked his way to the line.
Otley were caught offside and the penalty was put into their 22. From the line-out, Huddersfield drove their way to the line with Richard Piper touching down.
However, the home side were constantly troubled by Otley’s ability to attack from deep, orchestrated by Johnson and Smith.
They came close after a penalty had them camped on the Laiker's line, but the attack broke down.
Otley’s next score came at the start of the second quarter. Magee’s run down the left hand flank was followed by a pass to Alex Beaumont, who crossed with ease.
Although a Huddersfield penalty reduced the deficit, quick hands found Beaumont in space on the left and he cross for the third Otley try. Smith got his third conversion, two of them from the touchline.
A high tackle in front of the hosts’ posts saw Smith extend Otley’s lead early in the second half.
Huddersfield mounted a response and rewarded with a try by Lewis Bradley after a rolling maul was followed by a series of pick and drives.
Smith got another penalty just before the hour and the visitors ended the game pummelling Huddersfield’s line but were thwarted in getting what would have been a justified fourth try.
