OTLEY subdued Sheffield Tigers with three rolling maul tries and a penalty in a 20-14 victory that went to the wire.

Early Otley pressure brought a five metre scrum for the Tigers, as Ben Magee, having previously come close to scoring, was tackled just before the line.

Otley pushed the Tigers' pack off the ball, and Jack Scott-Paul touched down for a try.

Roused, the Tigers came straight back and Henri Packard scored in the right-hand corner, with Mark Ireland getting the conversion.

The visitors threw the ball and looked dangerous throughout, and having missed a penalty, were rewarded on the half-hour when Ed Simmons broke through a tackle to score under the posts. Ireland added the conversion.

Otley responded and Alex Beaumont was bundled into touch close to the line on the left-hand side.

Play switched to the other side of the pitch and the Tigers were penalised for a deliberate knock on, but Otley lost the ball in the tackle after the line-out from the penalty. The visitors struggled against Otley’s dominant pack and gave away another penalty.

They were able to halt the drive that followed, but a high tackle on Beaumont meant another penalty, this time put out on the left-hand side.

From the line-out, the Otley pack drove Joe Graham over and Ben Smith converted.

The second half was more attritional, as Jack Mackie came close but a deliberate knock-on by Will Wallace brought him a yellow card.

Otley’s elected scrum went down, although they got another penalty when Tigers were caught off-side.

Putting the ball into the clubhouse corner, Otley knocked on in the act of scoring.

For the second time, they pushed the visitors off the ball, and Adam Malthouse scored.

Joe Rowntree extended Otley’s lead with a 30-metre penalty, and were able to withhold Tiger’s attacks for the remaining 10 minutes.
