Ben Rhydding 3 Newcastle University 3
BEN Rhydding were left regretting having let the chance to secure three points slip away in their challenge for promotion from the North Men's League Division One.
The students exerted early pressure to the ball and consistently left Rhydding battling to make connections.
Newcastle had the upper hand for the first 20 minutes but Rhydding took the lead from a corner via Will Musgrave.
George Gamble made it 2-0 mopping up after another decent corner effort and Rhydding looked to be pulling away as they went into the break.
Newcastle had other ideas and came out strong and netted from an impressive reverse shot to the far post a minute after the break.
They made it 2-2 straight after with a breakaway goal that was somewhat fortunate.
To add insult to injury, the students then edged ahead after a neat deflection put them 3-2 up.
Rhydding began to play some good hockey, but it was looking like too little too late.
They were forced to adopt last-ditch tactics and they paid off. Rhydding took their keeper off and won a corner which Musgrave duly dispatched to force a draw.
