Neston 4 Ben Rhydding 5
BEN Rhydding showed great tenacity and tactical nous to come out with a win in another thrilling battle with Neston.
Rhydding found themselves 2-0 down quite quickly and struggled to deal with the fast break capability of home side.
They began their reply courtesy of Will Musgrave with a beautiful corner conversion.
He made it 2-2 with another undefendable drag flick and Rhydding were back in the driving seat.
Rhydding edged into the lead soon after, Callum Franks putting a clinical ball into the circle and Max Helme getting a touch at full stretch to deflect past the unprepared Neston keeper.
Youngster, Charlie Day made it 4-2 just before the half-time break, getting on the end of a pass from Lewis Wild to slot past the keeper to stretch the lead.
A penalty stroke for Neston was dealt with superbly by keeper, Torran Hockley who made a spectacular save.
Rhydding came out strong in the second half but a foolish off the ball foul led to a card, a corner and a goal for Neston to keep their hopes alive just when Rhydding were stretching away.
Rhydding stepped up and had the lion’s share of possession and plenty of circle entries.
Matty Birch picked his spot for the perfect pass and Matty Bairstow got a touch to deflect the ball over the keeper’s head into the back of the net to make it 5-3.
Neston gained another penalty stroke and this time were able to beat Hockley to claw back to 5-4. This victory leaves Ben Rhydding among the top four teams competing for lead in the league. They play Wilmslow at home on Saturday at 3pm.
