STUNNING photographs have been released by Aireborough Camera Club as it brings its 2017-2018 season to a close.

The pictures were taken by its competition winners and cover a wide range of subjects.

Aireborough Camera Club Vice President Chris Owens said: “I am glad to say that we have given the Yorkshire Photographic Union judges a difficult time in selecting winners for all the competitions, as the standard of entries has been extremely high. The quality of entries was so good that the judges had to add Commended and Highly Commended categories in addition to the normal first, second and third.”

The club closed its season with an annual dinner and presentation evening at Rawdon Golf Club. Awards were made to old and new members.

Looking back at the year Mr Owens said: “There has been a wide range of topics covered in members’ individual presentations either as illustrated talks or a set of images accompanied by music. The subjects covered have all been enjoyable in different ways; amusing, informative, thought provoking and even educational.

“Our guest presenters, professional and semi-professional photographers, have been most entertaining and stimulating: Working with Animals from Tasni Ward, Another International Journey, from club favourite Dave Mead, My Life as a Photojournalist, from Steve Riding, and Ann Miles who demonstrated the glory of Monochrome Photography.

“The Club’s annual three day photographic trip was back to the Lake District, taking in not just the wonderful and dramatic scenery but also the vintage car hill climb at Honister Slate Quarry and a very early morning trying to catch the sunrise over Castlerigg Stone Circle. Strangely for the Lakes in November the weather was excellent giving great light for the scenic shots.”

The annual open competition My Yorkshire, organised and run by the club, is now open and entries can be sent as prints or emails. The closing date is August 17.

Thanks to support by sponsors, prizes are being offered in both sections - £100 (Brewin Dolphin) to the winner in the Adult Section and £50 (Rotary of Aireborough) to the winner in the Secondary Section.

The club’s new season starts with its open evening at Guiseley Theatre on Wednesday, September 12 at 7.45pm. Everyone is welcome and entry is free. The syllabus for next year is described as “varied and exciting” with competitions, talks, practical sessions, visits and a three day trip to Betws-Y-Coed North Wales.

Mr Owens said: “Whatever your photographic experience do come along and see us, new members are always welcome. For more details of the club, the ‘Open Competition’ and samples of the images produced by our members visit our website www.aireboroughcameraclub.co.uk.”
