It’s time to dust off those running shoes, frying pans and get ready to go flippin’ crazy on Shrove Tuesday.
The Ilkley Rotary Pancake Races are returning after a successful first outing last year, and are expected to be even bigger.
Schools around Ilkley and district have indicated they will be entering pupils for the junior races, while the organisers hope staff from local businesses will also take part in the event.
This year’s races will have a red, white and blue theme to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubliee, the London Olympics and its torch procession through Ilkley later this year.
And it is hoped some competitors will dress up for the race, like last year.
The event, along The Grove, on Tuesday, February 21, runs from 11am to 1.30pm, with the junior races first followed by the adult event in the afternoon.
Schools are being urged to return details of numbers of pupils entering to Arnie Read or Glynne Edwards at the Rotary Club of Ilkley this week so the final arrangements for the races can be made Sponsors of the event include Bettys Tea Rooms, Mortens of Ilkley, Dacre, Son & Hartley, and Stray FM.
