Sports clubs and groups promoting physical activity will meet tonight to find out how they can leave an Olympic legacy for Wharfedale.
Local Sports Alliance Wharfedale Activity Group (WAG) will have its first meeting at Ilkley Rugby Club this evening, with the aim of bringing together organisations in the Ilkley area to promote sport and physical health.
The meeting, starting at 6.30pm, is open to individuals and groups in Addingham, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley and Menston who would like to discuss initiatives and activities around the theme of sport and physical health.
WAG will also use the 2012 Olympic Games to help to encourage people of all ages to take up physical exercise.
Development worker, James Heddon, said: “WAG brings sports clubs and groups together and supports them with advice and information. It helps them to work in partnership to provide the best possible opportunities for sportspeople of all ages throughout the Wharfe Valley.”
WAG held a successful and well-attended open evening at the rugby club earlier this month, which included a tour of the facilities at the Denton Road club’s new clubhouse.
The organisation benefits from funding from Bradford Council and a sport revenue grant from Ilkley Rugby Club’s building project.
Mr Heddon was appointed to help WAG bring together clubs and organisations across the valley, to help them work together, as well as open sport and physical activity up to more residents.
