Volunteers have been given more time by Bradford Council to arrange the community takeover of Addingham Library.
The local authority has now given villagers until the end of August as talks continue about the transfer of library services to the community.
The library, on Main Street, was one of five in the Bradford District earmarked earlier this year for closure at the end of June, as part of council spending cuts.
Addingham was later given until July 15 for agreements to be drawn up allowing local volunteers to staff the library.
Craven ward councillor, Adrian Naylor, says the deadline has now been extended until August 31, giving the village more time to put all the arrangements in place, and form a new body to oversee the service.
He says there will be the opportunity for council library staff to work alongside the volunteers, before volunteers fully take over the staffing of the library.
Coun Naylor said: “It’s now a lot clearer in terms of looking like we’re going to achieve this.”
Another meeting is due to take place this week, as those behind the bid look at the model for running the library in future, and formation of a legal body to run the service.
It is hoped Bradford Council can continue to provide computer access and book loan services. The building itself is owned by Addingham Parish Council.
Meanwhile in Denholme and Wrose, where village libraries are also scheduled for closure, talks are still going on about the community taking over the service.
