Otley Town 5 Kellingley Welfare 0
Otley Town continued their good run and climb up the West Yorkshire Premier Division table after an emphatic win over their newly-promoted rivals.
Although they occupy a mid-table position, Town have games in hand on the teams above them and have lost only four times this season – a record surpassed only by new league leaders Bardsey.
Otley started well and for the first ten minutes Kellingley barely crossed the halfway line.
It was no surprise when Tom Chadwick got the ball rolling by converting a free-kick from 20 yards.
The position of the free kick, to the left of the Kellingley penalty area, suggested a right foot strike would be the best option.
The visitors’ keeper must have thought likewise because he left a big gap at his near post which Chadwick, bright as a button, exploited with his left foot.
Chris Dowson was next on the scoresheet which is not in itself surprising. However the fact that he managed it with a power header is a rare sight.
Joe Hendrie set up the goal with a lovely cross from the right but Dowson still had a lot to do.
His run on the blind side of the full back was perfectly timed and he met the ball with a header of real quality.
A 2-0 lead at half-time was evidence that Town were in control of matters but as always with such a scoreline the next goal is very important.
It came from Town on the hour mark when substitute Scott Cater bundled home from two yards.
Town were now pretty much home and dry and Kellingley only made things worse for themselves by contesting every decision made by the referee.
Eventually he got fed-up and sent off one of their players following an accumulation of dangerous challenges.
Next on the scoresheet was substitute Rob Hillas who fired home accurately from the edge of the six-yard box and the fifth was added with five minutes left by substitute Andy Crowther.
He netted with a superbly placed shot low into the corner from the edge of the box.
All 14 Town players contributed to a comfortable home win.
This Saturday Town travel to Howden Clough to play their much postponed League Cup Round One fixture. Kick-off is 2.30
