The UK Independence Party has selected its Keighley and Ilkley prospective parliamentary candidate for the general election.
Paul Latham, who is married with two sons, lives in the Middleton area of Ilkley.
He has a background in general management and has created and launched new business divisions in firms such as Warner Brothers, Hasbro and Virgin Group.
He said: “Public opinion is still being disregarded about the continued war in Afghanistan and troop withdrawal after an eight-year campaign.
“I believe a political settlement should have been negotiated.
“The MPs’ expenses row is also a signal about the requirement for a thorough overhaul of the methods and practices followed in Westminster and Whitehall.”
He said issues of concern to him also included rising food prices in supermarkets and fuel and energy price levels.
