A fundraising group supporting a children’s hospital unit in Leeds has handed over £55,000 from events it staged this year.
Ilkley Candlelighters’ chairman, Judith Wood-Robertson, and treasurer, Sally Roulston, presented a £55,000 cheque at the Countdown to Christmas Fair at Riddings Hall, Ilkley, to Sally Amos, from the Candlelighters’ Leeds office, the result of 2009’s fundraising by the Ilkley group.
The Candlelighters charity supports the regional paediatric oncology unit at St James’s Hospital, Leeds. The unit treats children suffering from cancer and serious blood disorders.
The fair itself raised the impressive sum of £1,370. The event boasted stalls selling pottery, cashmere clothing, books and toys, and the committee had its own stall selling fresh produce and Christmas cards.
Ilkley Candelighters thanked all the supporters and stall holders for their efforts in making the fair a success.
