THE worst of the snow may be over but Storm Bert has a nasty sting in its tail.
The trailing edge of a vicious squall of rain hit cold air this morning leading to a period of heavy snow.
Police and emergency services have urged people to stay at home and only travel when necessary.
The Met Office hour-by-hour forecast shows:
- mid-day: heavy rain & strong winds with gusts of 40mph
- 1p: heavy rain & strong gusts
- 2pm: heavy rain
- 4pm: heavy rain and wind dropping
- 5pm: relative calm with a 50/50 chance of rain
However, the gusty winds will pick up again in the early hours of Sunday with speeds of up to 44mph continuing throughout most of Sunday.
After a grim weekend, Monday will dawn bright and sunny with several days of pleasant weather.
