OTLEY Cycle Club have recently committed £10,000 to local projects supporting children’s cycling and community activities within the Otley area. One of these projects was the joint funding, along with Friends of Ashfield, of a cycle shelter and bike rack for Ashfield Primary School.

Watched by some of the pupils who regularly cycle to school, Tony Wild, President of Otley Cycle Club officially opened the cycle shelter and said: “Otley Cycle Club are committed to encouraging children’s cycling in the local family of schools and so encouraging healthy young lives.”

Their enthusiasm was summed up by two of the pupils. Anna, nine, said: “There are slopes on the way to school and I love going really fast!” whilst Stanley, aged eight said: “I just like cycling.”

Headteacher Elspeth Warren added: “It’s fabulous to have the bike shelter so that we don’t have any soggy bottoms on the way home!”
