FOR their final show of the year local music promoters Village Pavilion will host a show by the genre-defying trio Archipelago.
Fronted by multi-instrumentalist and composer Faye MacCalman and featuring John Pope (bass) and Christian Anderson (drums) their sound has been described as "a dreamlike collision of otherworldly atmospheres, heartfelt song-writing and energetic off-kilter rhythms".
Moving between instruments and effects to create the illusion of a much larger ensemble, before peeling back to their raw, improvisational trio form, Archipelago’s uncompromising refusal to fit in one genre makes for a fully-charged musical experience.
With influences stretching from Joni Mitchell to Don Cherry to Esperanza Spalding, Archipelago draw on a deep pool of sonic references and the diversity of their individual musical histories. Their latest album ‘Echoes to the Sky’ was critically acclaimed, including backing from Jazzwise magazine, Gilles Peterson and a nomination for UK Jazz Act of The Year in the Jazz FM Awards with appearances at Love Supreme Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival and London Jazz Festival.
Support for Archipelago comes from singer songwriter Anna Tempest, an Anglo German Siren, now residing in the Colne valley. Her lofi guitar melodies and warm vocals bring together local folklore and nature in dreamlike songs.
The show takes place on Saturday, November 16 from 7pm - 10:30pm at Ilkley Moor Vaults.
Tickets are £7 and available from Eventbrite.
