ON Saturday, November 9th the Colne Orpheus Glee Union Male Voice Choir will be appearing at the Bridge United Reformed Church, Bridge Street, Otley at 7:30pm.

A spokesperson for the church said: "Remember the TV programme Last Choir Standing? Well, Colne Orpheus Glee Union claims to be the First Choir Standing, and that’s the title of one of their CD’s.

"Established in 1886, the Orpheus claims to have the longest unbroken history of any English male voice choir. Over 138 years, the Orpheus has sung for royalty, won at top music festivals, broadcast on radio and made numerous recordings. In recent years they have embarked on successful singing tours to Germany, France, Ireland and Malta.

"Matt Leedam, who runs a long-established family pharmacy business in Colne, is the conductor and is consistently introducing new material to the choir’s repertoire. In addition to choosing the choir’s material and conducting, he is also an organist and arranger. Matthew is the latest in a line of accomplished musical directors.

"If you thought male voice choirs only sang Welsh hymns, think again. Their repertoire includes show songs such as Maria, 76 Trombones, Music Of the Night and Some Enchanted Evening. Pop Classics from the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Bette Midler. Sacred Music including Panis Angelicus, Nearer My God to Thee and The Lord Is My Shepherd (Vicar of Dibley version!). And Male Voice Favourites including My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose, When The Saints Go Marching In and An Eriskay Love Lilt.

"Admission to the concert is £10 payable on the door and accompanied under 16s will be admitted free of charge.

"Proceeds from the concert will go to the Hollybush Project for Adults with Learning Disability who are the charity which the Bridge Church is supporting this year."
