Guiseley and Rawdon Labour Councillor Oliver Edwards attended a roundtable event this week with Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin and other representatives from across Leeds working on crime and community safety.

It was part of the Mayor’s consultation on her Police and Crime Plan for 2024-2028, which closes on October 31.

In his contribution, Cllr Edwards drew on conversations with local residents during street surgeries, community events and work with the police and youth services. This included issues raised by residents including the anti-social use of off road bikes, incidents where young people have been robbed or attacked by other young people, and the need for residents to have confidence that when issues are reported they will be followed up.

Cllr Edwards said: “We are determined to put forward positive and pro-active actions that look for solutions. Residents are understandably concerned however we all have a responsibility to support the police in their vital work through reporting incidents as they happen and sharing our ideas for how they could better serve our communities. Although people often feel that consultations are meaningless, we as representatives care and so does our Mayor."
