THE town's MP has vowed to do all he can to oppose the introduction of parking charges at Ilkley Pool and Lido.
Robbie Moore MP said: “The future of our Lido is under threat and Bradford Council’s answer to this is…to introduce car parking charges at the site for the first time ever. You quite literally couldn’t make this up.
"The Council’s leadership are not even hiding their contempt for the taxpayers of Ilkley anymore, and this is one of the clearest examples yet of "one rule for Bradford City, another for the residents of Keighley and Ilkley". This decision was made without public consultation, during (rather than after) an ongoing review of leisure facilities, and at an imbalance compared to the rest of the pools in Bradford.
"Ilkley’s sole Green Party Councillor says “this is good news” - I can assure the councillor that this is not good news for the public, pool users, and members, staff and players at Olicanian Cricket club - who have relied on parking at Denton Road for years.
"I will be doing all I can as the town’s MP to oppose these measures and urge our Green Councillors to stand united with our local conservatives in opposing these measures in their representations to the council.”
