A ONE-off workshop to introduce a new choral work, Shannon's Song, written to mark the bicentenary in 2024 of the RNLI is set to take place on Saturday, November 23 from 10am - 1pm in St. John's Church Hall, Ben Rhydding.

The Shannon Class Lifeboats are the RNLI's latest all-weather lifeboat. The words of the song have been written by Leeds-based poet, Emma Storr, in collaboration with Ben Rhydding-based composer and choir leader, Keely Hodgson.

Keely would like to enlist as many keen singers as possible, who are music readers, or who learn well by listening to learning tracks, inviting them to familiarise themselves with their parts so that, on the morning of the workshop, they can "launch the song" and test her for sea-worthiness!

Singers can view the score and hear the piece in its version for SATB and piano on the ChoirCommunity website here

To register for the workshop email: keelylhodgson@gmail.com giving your full name and voice part. Keely will send an email in response, with a link to a pdf score of Shannon's Song and your learning track, as well as a track of the full song with piano accompaniment.

Details of how to pay for the workshop will be included. Deadline for registration is November 2nd.

If you are unable to attend the workshop but would like to support the work of the RNLI, donations can be made through this link: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/sing-to-save-lives-2024

One of the RNLI vice presidents for the Yorkshire region, Clive Rand, will be attending the workshop to give a brief outline of its work.

Workshop fee: £15. All fees will be donated to the RNLI.
