"What a fabulous uplifting night!"
That was the verdict after the Ilkley Macmillan ‘Vegas’ Fashion Show 2024 which was held at The Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley.
One hundred and thirty guests attended and as well as a fabulous fashion show they also enjoyed a two-course supper.
The fashion show - hosted by Andrew Dobson and Rachel Peru - included men’s and women’s autumn fashion, with the volunteer models showcasing clothes from local independent retailers.
A spokesperson for the Macmillan fashion show's organising committee said: "We are proud to support local business in Ilkley and it was great to showcase 11 local retailers, offering a wide selection of fashion, something for everybody on the catwalk.
"We’d like to say a big thank you to all the model volunteers, 30 in total, who brimmed with confidence down the catwalk and helped make it a very special evening. Some who have supported this event for years and some walking for the very first time. It’s also great to see more men involved this year and they are nearly at equal numbers to the women! They certainly raised their game with their fun rendition of YMCA for the Fitting Room scene, providing lots of laughter and great fun for the audience. One of the audience had more of a surprise than most as she spotted her husband on the catwalk and had no idea he was involved!
"We even saw three generations of one family walk in the show which is a testament to how much people love being involved. This was also the second year we welcomed models from Outside the Box, who beamed with confidence down the runway and are now a much-loved part of the team.
"Whilst we were all very excited to be back having fun it’s also important to remember why we support such a crucial and much needed charity. Every two minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer. This year’s guest speaker, Loren Fidler gave a moving and powerful speech whilst sharing her own experience of cancer, which was hugely appreciated and respected by everyone in the room.
"We are proud to announce the evening raised £6,000 for the much-needed Macmillan charity.
"Special thanks to our sponsors for their wonderful support. To all retailers involved in the show and those that kindly donated raffle prizes, supported the event and everyone that helped make the evening such a success.
"If any local businesses or retailers would like to be know how they can support future events, please email ilkleyfashionshow@gmail.com for more information."
