Children and parents of Moorfield School and Nursery in Ilkley have been collecting food and domestic items on behalf of Bradford Food Bank.
As part of the PSHE curriculum (Personal, Social and Health Education), children learn about global issues such as climate change and the impact this has on how food is grown and resourced. The children have a well-developed understanding of the term ‘food poverty’ and the implications for families locally, across the UK and the impact on the wider world.
At Moorfield’s recent Harvest assembly, they focused on responsibilities for the planet and what can be done to address climate change and food poverty.
Mrs Tina Herbert, Head of Moorfield, said: "It is so important for our children to understand that we are part of a wider community and it is our responsibility and duty to think of others. We are delighted with the response we get from children and parents who are always incredibly generous with their donations."
