'EXTRAORDINARY' work carried out by healthcare staff across the district has been showcased in a prestigious awards scheme.
Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust has staged its You’re a Star Awards.
The presentation ceremony – at the Mercure Bankfield Hotel, Bingley – saw accolades handed out across more than a dozen categories.
Host was TV sports presenter Tanya Arnold.
It was the first time in five years that the awards programme, sponsored by Sovereign Health Care, had hosted an in-person ceremony.
First honour of the evening – the Working Together Award – went to Sharon Walker, of the oral health team, in recognition of a new approach to delivering the annual Mouth Cancer Action campaign.
The Service User, Carer and Volunteer Contribution Award was presented to Chris Rollings, who has volunteered on a mental health inpatient ward for three years.
Unsung Hero accolades were won by pharmacy technician Patsy Bamber – who administers medicines and supports patients to stay independent and healthy in the community – and Jess Green, health lead in a school and nursery.
The Mental Health Services Team of the Year title went to staff at the Najurally Centre, a specialist assessment and treatment unit for adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities and mental health problems.
Winner of the Corporate Services Team of the Year prize was the trust’s energy, waste and sustainability team; the Community Children’s Services Team of the Year title was won by paediatric speech and language therapy staff, and the Physical Community Health Services Award went to the proactive care team.
In addition to their award, each winner received a hamper and £300 to support their ongoing work.
Care trust chief executive Therese Patten says: "It was lovely to be able to get together in person for the first time since 2019 to celebrate the awards and congratulate our winners, finalists and nominees.
"Our recipients have truly demonstrated that for them, working at the trust is never ‘just a job’. They have run with a challenge, got projects off the ground in and around their everyday work, overcome obstacles and worked with others to improve services, meet changing needs and address health inequalities. Well done to them all."
Neil McCallum, chief executive of Sovereign Health Care, said: "I was enormously impressed to hear about the extraordinary work carried out by care trust employees."
