Bradford Grammar Junior School has made a substantial investment in modern facilities, expanding its offerings for children as young as four and paving the way for a lifelong love of learning.

With a commitment to nurturing creativity, independence and a passion for knowledge, the school - known as Clock House - provides inspiring teachers, world-class outdoor spaces, and a vibrant array of co-curricular activities, making it the ideal environment for every child to realise their unique potential.

A new chapter begins

This September marked an exciting milestone for Clock House with the launch of its Reception and Year 1 classes. The purpose-built facilities, with bright, modern classrooms, are designed to ignite a love of learning from day one.

A standout feature of the development is the free-flow access to the outdoor space at Clock House, which has been transformed into a natural learning environment where children can explore, play, and let their imaginations run wild. With a mud kitchen, woodland exploration zone, open air amphitheatre, discovery trail and treehouse, pupils now enjoy a wide array of opportunities for creative and active learning throughout the year.

Whether it’s building dens, performing outdoor theatre, or participating in our popular gardening club, our pupils thrive in environments that stimulate both body and mind. Evidence suggests that connecting with nature supports cognitive development and encourages imaginative play - something we wholeheartedly embrace at Bradford Grammar.”

Building strong foundations in academics

While creativity and exploration are actively encouraged, academic rigor remains firmly at the heart of Clock House’s educational offering. From the moment children step into Reception, the groundwork for future academic success is laid with a strong emphasis on high-quality instruction in English and mathematics.

In Year 1, pupils engage with a full spectrum of National Curriculum subjects, including science, humanities, art, design technology and computing, many taught by specialist teachers who bring their expertise into the classroom.

Richard explains: “Whether delving into the theme of 'Everyday Superheroes' in Year 2 or improving foundation maths skills in Year 1, the curriculum is thoughtfully designed to ignite a passion for learning and spark intellectual curiosity.”

Exploring beyond the classroom

Clock House takes pride in its extensive co-curricular programme, designed to enhance the academic curriculum, and enrich pupils’ overall experiences. With a diverse range of activities - from Irish dancing to Lego robotics - children are encouraged to explore their interests and develop new skills.

For the youngest pupils in Reception and Year 1, activities are carefully tailored to nurture creativity and curiosity, while the variety of clubs expands as pupils progress through the school.

“Co-curricular activities play a vital role in our holistic approach to education, ensuring a well-rounded experience that supports each child's unique interests and strengths,” adds Richard.

Nurturing a love for music

Music at Clock House is more than just a subject; it’s a passion nurtured to help pupils gain confidence and express themselves. From day one, children are introduced to the joy of music through engaging lessons and performances.

Throughout their time in the Junior School, children are encouraged to participate in choirs, orchestras, and performances, while individual music tuition from visiting specialist teachers is introduced in Year 2.

Promoting health and fitness through sport

Sport is another cornerstone of life at Clock House, with regular PE lessons that promote fitness, teamwork, and personal growth. From swimming lessons in the onsite 25-meter pool to tennis, cricket, rugby, netball and hockey coaching, Clock House offers a variety of physical activities to suit every child’s interests.

“Our aim is to instil a love of sport early on, helping children develop healthy habits that last a lifetime,” says Richard. “The sense of camaraderie developed on the field translates into the classroom, creating well-rounded, confident individuals.”
