Guiseley Theatrical Productions (GTP) is gearing up for a vibrant rendition of the beloved 1980s classic, The Wedding Singer.

This musical, featuring music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin, is based on the 1998 film of the same name. It tells the story of Robbie, a wedding singer navigating the ups and downs of love and heartbreak.

Following their recent successful run of School of Rock at Yeadon Town Hall Theatre, in 2023 GTP is excited to present this lively show at the same venue from October 16th to October 19th, 2024.

This production brings back two talented cast members who are reprising their roles a decade later. Ben Tomlinson, who plays the lead character Robbie Hart, first took on the role ten years ago, in May 2014 with Brassneck Theatre, on the very same stage. “I was just 27 at the time and felt a mix of excitement and dread about learning to play the guitar, which I had no passion for,” Tomlinson recalls. “Now, ten years later, I’m thrilled and flattered to be back playing Robbie once again, although the guitar still intimidates me!”

Adam Folkard returns as George, marking this his third appearance in the role. “The Wedding Singer has always held a special place in my heart,” he says. “It was the first musical I truly discovered for myself. I’m excited to reunite with my fellow cast member from a decade ago and share the stage once again.”

The cast also features a blend of both seasoned and new talent from GTP. The roles of Julia, Holly, Rosie, Sammy, and Glen will be portrayed by Chloé Anderson, Natalie Graham, Shirley Broadbent, Richard Mace, and Jamie Wilkinson.

This production also emphasises family ties, with Director Nigel Passey being joined by his daughter, Luna, who will take the stage. Additionally, musical director Ian Sapiro will perform alongside his two daughters, Jennie and Becca. The ensemble also includes Val Eyles-Owen and Sebastian Bent, who will share the spotlight in The Wedding Singer. Three generations of the Booth, Magson, and Thompson families will contribute their talents both on and offstage.
