The South Korea/USA modern romance Past Lives is Ilkley Film Society's next screening on Sunday, October 13 (8pm, Ilkley Playhouse).
Two childhood friends, Na Young and Hae Sung, are torn apart when Na Young's parents emigrate with her to Canada. As adults they make online video contact and their friendship is renewed and deepened. Na Young is now Nora, a successful playwright, living in New York with her American husband. When Hae Sung comes to New York for a week's visit the two have to confront and resolve their feelings for each other.
This gentle, warm and sensitive film is the feature debut of writer/director Celine Song whose screenplay received nominations for both Academy Award and BAFTA. It will be screened with hard-of-hearing subtitles in accordance with the society's policy on films made in the USA.
Guests are welcome, as always, (tickets £5, cash only) but should phone Dave Howell on 01943 430097 or email secretary@ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk to ensure admission. Membership is still available, and further information about the film and the rest of the Film Society season can be found at www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk
