ALL three religious buildings in Bramhope will be on Sunday, September 15 as part of the Heritage Open Days festival and history.

This is a unique opportunity to visit three very different buildings, each one of which has unique architectural features, and understand the development of religious practice in one community over almost four centuries.

In past years visitors have really appreciated being able to combine these visits. All three buildings will have guides on hand to explain the major features and answer questions.

Bramhope Methodist Church Bramhope Methodist Church

The Methodist Church on Eastgate is a beautiful hidden gem of a building dating from 1896. Come along and find out why it is known as 'The Cathedral of the Dales'. The church has some beautiful stained glass and a splendid Abbot & Smith organ. This year’s theme for the Heritage Open Days is Journeys and the organisers are sure you will enjoy your journey around the church which will be open from 1pm to 4pm and refreshments will be available.

Walk along Eastgate to The Cross and turn down Church Hill and you come to the beautiful Parish Church of St Giles which was dedicated in 1881, replacing the Chapel as the Anglican place of worship. The church contains examples of ‘Mouseman’ furniture and fine stained glass. Guides will be able to show you round or take your own time to wander and stay for refreshments. Come inside and explore 140 years of history between 2pm and 4pm.

Bramhope Puritan Chapel Bramhope Puritan Chapel

Cross Leeds Road from St Giles and you will see Bramhope Puritan Chapel. Take a look around this Grade I listed chapel built in 1649, a rare example of a church built specifically for Puritan worship. See the chapel with its box pews and elevated pulpit and memorial plaques. Hear the history of the chapel and about some of those associated with the building through regular talks during the opening. Open 1.30pm to 4.30pm
