ILKLEY celebrated Ukrainian Independence Day at a packed event at the Clarke Foley Centre on Saturday, August 24.
Hosted by Larisa Korol, and her working team, they presented a four hour showcase of the rich cultural heritage of their homeland with traditional Ukrainian cakes and nibbles, music, dance, and wonderful displays of arts and crafts.
On stage, the talents of local and internationally renowned singers and entertainers, bringing the essence of Ukrainian culture and history to life.
Many locally schooled children, supporting their parents language development, read poetry and stories.
Contributions and donations on the day exceeded £1,000, which will be sent to Ukraine to support those in dire need.
This celebration marks the third Independence Day event in Ilkley, and Larisa Korol emphasised the welcome, warmth and care received from across the Wharfedale community. She expressed the group’s deep gratitude for the kindness and solidarity shown by their Yorkshire neighbours over these past three years.
