Anthony Hopkins stars in One Life, the opening film in Ilkley Film Society's 55th season, on Sunday, September 8 (Ilkley Playhouse, 8pm).

The film is based on the true story of London stockbroker Nicholas Winton who rescued 669 children, mostly Jews, from the Nazis in the months leading up to World War II as part of the now legendary Kindertransport. Fifty years later, haunted by the fate of the children he was unable to save and tormented by self-accusations that he could have done more, he is invited onto the TV show That's Life.

The debut feature of director James Hawes, One Life also stars Helena Bonham Carter and, as the 1939 Winton, actor/musician Johnny Flynn, who has already portrayed Ian Fleming and David Bowie, and who starred in the recent TV series Ripley.

As this is a British film, hard-of-hearing subtitles will not be displayed, in accordance with the Film Society's policy.

Membership for the season is still available, and those interested should visit the Society's website at www.ilkleyfilmsociety.org.uk to complete and submit the application form.

Non-members are welcome to attend as guests (tickets £5) but should phone Dave Howell on 01943 430097 or email from the website to ensure admission.
