SOMETHING for everyone is promised at this year’s Burley Summer Festival, with nine days of events offering everything from music to gardening, classic cars to exhibitions plus a scarecrow trail and the village’s annual fun dog show.

The festival starts on Saturday, August 17 with Burley in Woofdale dog show at the village Recreation Ground. Registration starts at 10am, with activities running from 10.45am-3pm. New this year are the dog scurry and dog-and-owner fancy dress. With 10 classes to choose from, a have-a-go dog activity ring, and the ever-popular terrier racing, the show is set to deliver pawsome activities for dogs, their owners and anyone watching.

Back again on Sunday, August 18 is the Burley Classic Car Show including over 300 classic vehicles and bikes. The show can be enjoyed free of charge, but donations are gratefully received.

Also on the Sunday is music in the park, stalls, donkey rides and craft and food fairs and new this year, The Wellness Hub. This new event offers a perfect opportunity to connect with local experts and embrace a healthier lifestyle. Inspiring talks about the benefits of looking after your health, along with taster treatments (£15) will be available in the Library between 11am and 4pm.

Concerts throughout the week include Wharfedale Male Voice Choir, Ladies Please Choir and A Night at the Opera with performers from Opera North. A music night will also take place at Burley Social Club on August 23.

A firm village favourite is the weeklong Scarecrow Trail and this year the theme is ‘All at Sea’. Many households and businesses in the village create fantastic displays so people are encouraged to come down to the Round House in Grange Park and buy their trail then have fun judging their favourites. Again, spanning the whole week and mostly free of charge, will be a variety of local walks to interesting and unusual places, planned by Walkers are Welcome.

Festival Chair, Val Smyth, said: “Our small team of dedicated volunteers continues to work hard behind the scenes planning the events and we are really keen to encourage villagers and visitors alike to come to Burley and enjoy all that Festival Week has to offer. If anyone would like to volunteer on the committee or help out during Festival Week, do get in touch via the website.”

Burley Summer Festival runs from August 17 to 26.
