ILKLEY Film Society has unveiled the programme for its 55th season.

From September to June at Ilkley Playhouse (Sundays at 8pm) the society will screen 21 films from 13 different countries.

The English language component of the strong and varied programme includes the winner of seven Oscars, Oppenheimer, Ken Loach's The Old Oak and the exquisite Irish film That They May Face The Rising Sun.

Foreign language highlights include Oscar winners Anatomy Of a Fall and 20 Days in Mariupol, as well as the amazing Icelandic comedy Driving Mum and the new Bhutanese film The Monk And The Gun, by the director of the Film Society's biggest hit of last season, Lunana: A Yak In The Classroom. The inclusion of films from Ukraine and Senegal takes the number of countries whose films the society has screened since its 1969 foundation to sixty-six.

Blu-ray discs are used for projection wherever possible, and American (but not British) films will be screened with hard-of-hearing subtitles when available. Since the beginning of last season the Society has installed both a new disc-player and a new amplifier so the standard of presentation is better than ever.

The season opens on 8th September with the British film One Life, starring Anthony Hopkins.
