MEMBERS of the Washburn Heritage Centre have recently been enjoying a varied programme of events on the theme 'Inspired by our Landscape'.

A series of walks in conjunction with the Otley Walking Festival proved very popular; also a gentle stroll around the Harewood estate with picnic lunch.

Amateur sketchers enhanced their work in a fun sketching workshop and a midsummer supper provided an evening of laughter and humour based on notable events from bygone centuries - with a twist!

A centre spokesperson said: "Many more delights are promised during the rest of the programme, which will run until the end of September. Highlights include a visit to Grade II listed Weston Hall and the formal gardens of Littlethorpe Manor. Roger Chapman, explorer, will make a welcome return to the Centre to enthral and inform us on his expedition to Greenland, and Patrick Eyres, writer and lecturer will lead us on an exploration of Turner in Yorkshire. Many more walks, talks, visits, workshops and, of course, the famous Washburn suppers will be on offer throughout the summer. And the ever popular Tea Room will be open during the summer months on Saturdays and Sundays 11am - 4pm for legendary cakes and a cuppa!

"To see the full programme or book any events please visit www.washburnvalley.org or ring the Centre on 01943 880794. Or why not join our friendly team of volunteers? One day a month in the Tea Room is a rewarding and enjoyable experience, where you will make new friends and have fun!"
