TEN-year-old Kaelum Elliott won first prize (Junior Section) in the Ilkley and District Young Photographer Competition run by Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club with his photograph of a squirrel collecting material for its nest.
The competition, which took place in January, is part of Rotary’s national programme. Kaelum's success meant he was entered into the regional competition which covers all of Yorkshire and Humberside and, in the spring, he learnt he had been awarded first prize again in his section.
A rotary spokesperson said: "His photograph progressed through to the national final and the second certificate that Kaelum is holding was awarded to him for reaching that national final, a fantastic achievement considering that the local judges thought the subject 'Re-building' to be particularly difficult to define. Kaelum says he will definitely enter the Young Photographer Competition again when it restarts in September 2024.”
