PLANNING for the 47th annual Menston Village Show is well and truly underway.

The event, on Saturday, September 14 at Kirklands Community Centre in Menston, aims to showcase a variety of talents across a range of classes from handicraft to home produce.

Local villagers and those from further afield are invited to enter. With over 80 categories to choose from, entrants will be spoilt for choice.

Both adults and juniors can show off their homegrown fruit and veg, flowers, flower arrangements, photography, home produce, handicrafts and more.

Highlights include the ever-popular home produce categories, though there are two new exciting categories this year: home brewed beer and homemade tipple.

The newly-formed Menston Yarnbombers, who were last year awarded a start-up grant from Menston Village Show to support their new group, have launched a Yarnbomber’s challenge for keen knitters and crafters. Entrants are challenged to knit a Halloween-themed item, with all entries donated to feature in the Menston Yarnbomber’s autumn/winter collection.

Finally, this year’s Special Class is bound to be popular with the local community as the show invites individuals or groups to design a tile to adorn the new Menston Scouts and Guides hut wall.

All proceeds from the Menston Village Show will go towards local charities and organisations, with hundreds of pounds raised each year. While this year’s show will once again donate to several community causes, all proceeds from the raffle, tombola and auction – plus any donated prize money – will go towards the new Menston Scouts and Guides HQ.

Victoria Taylor, Chair of the Menston Village Show Committee, said: “This year’s show is set to be bigger and better than ever, with a huge variety of new classes to choose from. The show always generates a lot of buzz in the local community but the new classes are sure to get everyone talking. We’re so excited to welcome people of all ages to showcase their skills and creativity. After all, the show is all about celebrating the talents of our local people and raising money for great causes!”

Such a varied and vibrant show is only made possible thanks to the support and generosity of the local community. Special appreciation must go to gold sponsors of the show: FMJ Plastering, Shankland Barraclough Estate Agents, Chevin Tree Surgeons, Menston Parish Council, Manor Coating Systems, Chris Steele and Shipley Glen Tramway.

Show entries will be accepted between 10am-11.30am on the day of the show (Saturday, September 14) at Kirklands Community Centre and cost £1 for adults, 50p for children or £5 for unlimited entries. The show then opens 2pm - 4.30pm and admission costs just £1 adults, or free for accompanied children and show entrants.

Entry forms will be available to fill out on the day or can be filled out in advance on the Menston Village Show website.
