ANNA Dixon, Labour’s newly elected MP for Shipley, has thanked voters for putting their trust in her and promised she is ready to serve them.
Speaking at the Shipley count after she took the seat from Sir Philip Davies with a majority of 8,603, Ms Dixon said: “Thank you to the people of Shipley. In every town and village across the constituency you have made your choice clear. After 14 years of Conservative failure, you’ve demanded change; you’ve rejected the chaos and divisions and chosen a better fairer future with Labour.
“For those who have voted Labour for the first time, a special thank you for putting your trust in me. Under Keir Starmer, the Labour Party has bold ambitions for improving people’s lives and getting Britain back on track.
Ms Dixon thanked the outgoing MP Philip Davies and all the candidates for a respectful campaign. She also thanked party activists and volunteers for all their hard work.
Ms Dixon added: “I was fortunate enough to take part in the Jo Cox Women in Leadership Programme and I am proud to be the first woman to represent this seat. I look forward to working with all the amazing women who have been elected for the first time tonight.
“For everyone in Shipley – those who voted for me, those who voted differently, and those who didn’t vote – I promise to represent you all and be your voice in parliament.
“I will listen to your concerns, work tirelessly and always put serving you first. I want to show you that things can be better, that politics can make a difference to people’s lives.
“As your new MP, your priorities are my priorities. My plan for the Shipley constituency is to revitalise our high streets, get our local NHS back on its feet, put more neighbourhood police on our streets, stop sewage pollution in our rivers and create opportunities for young people.
“You’ve put your trust in me, voted for change, and supported a Labour Party with a clear, positive vision for our future. I can’t wait to get on with the job you elected me to do. The hard work starts now. I am ready to serve you and won’t let you down.”
