A LITTER picking group based in Horsforth has received financial support from national housebuilder Taylor Wimpey.
Established in 2019, Horsforth Litter Pickers, part of Litter Free Leeds, is a community group set up by residents who aim to keep Horsforth clean and tidy through weekly litter picks.
Taylor Wimpey is building new homes close to Horsforth at its Woodside Vale development and decided to support the litter pickers with a £250 donation. The funding has helped the group to buy new equipment such as bin bags and brand new pickers to use when picking up rubbish, allowing them to continue the good work that they carry out in the local community.
Sam Allshorn, group organiser for Horsforth Litter Pickers, said: “We do our very best to keep Horsforth and surrounding areas as clean as possible, and donations help make a massive difference to the work that we do.
“Thanks to Taylor Wimpey’s support, we’ve been able to improve the rate we work and keep our team safe too, as the pickers allow us to maintain a distance and not come into close contact with the actual rubbish and waste whilst we work.”
Lucinda Dickens, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, said: “Groups like Horsforth Litter Pickers make such a difference to their communities and it’s great to see so many people getting involved and willing to help keep Horsforth as clean as possible.
“It just shows us how much the residents care about where they live and so, we wanted to offer our support, as we also care hugely about the environments which surround our homes.”
