A LOCAL home care company is partnering with charity, Parkinson’s UK at an event to explain the local resources available to those living with the condition.
Home Instead Ilkley is hosting a Parkinson’s awareness talk along with a Parkinson’s local advisor. Together they will discuss a range of important topics, including an overview of what Parkinson’s is, what symptoms to look out for, how to get a diagnosis and how to access support available through the charity.
The Parkinson’s awareness talk will take place at the Clarke Foley Community Centre in Ilkley on Monday, July 1 at 11.30am. It is part of a series of ‘Key To Care’ sessions which support anyone keen to learn more about how to help their loved ones overcome the challenges of old age.
Receiving a Parkinson’s diagnosis leads to many questions, not just for the individual but for family members too. The session is aimed at supporting the local community with the advisor able to impart their knowledge on how the condition can be managed and what support is available locally.
Home Instead Ilkley provide specialist support for those living with the neurological condition, and their care professionals are given specialist training according to the standards of Parkinson’s UK. They are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to give people with the condition a healthy, safe and comfortable life at home.
Simon White, Director of Home Instead Ilkley, said: “For many families, the journey that lies ahead after receiving a Parkinson’s diagnosis can be very daunting and stressful. We are confident that hearing about the support available locally through Parkinson’s UK will reassure our community that that living happily and comfortably at home can continue after diagnosis.”
“By accessing support through Parkinson’s UK, along with personalised and adaptive care at home, a loved ones condition can be carefully managed and enable them to continue living life to the fullest.”
Around 145,000 people in the UK are living with Parkinson’s, and it is estimated that 1 in 37 people will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime. There are over 40 symptoms of Parkinson’s, making it a complex illness that is unique to every individual.
Parkinson’s UK funds research to improve treatment and improve life for those living with Parkinson’s, with the ultimate goal to find a cure. In its partnership with Home Instead, the charity is gaining a better insight into the home care sector and further understanding what quality care at home looks like for someone with the condition.
