GIRLGUIDING Wharfedale are appealing for more volunteers to help runs its units.

Ann Peacock, PR advisor for Girlguiding Wharfedale said: "In the UK we have just marked ‘Volunteers’ Week’ when all who have volunteered in whatever capacity have been thanked.

"In Girlguiding Wharfedale we have a large number of volunteers who work with girls and young women aged from 4 to 30 years. Occasionally they get together to just meet up and reassure themselves that they are not alone and have the full support of the Association for back up and training.

"Apart from the regular weekly meetings, where girls learn many life skills and have a great deal of fun, many other activities take place which enhance their understanding of the community and people in need. Recently you will have seen reports of ‘The Big Help Out’ where girls have made food for food parcels, cleared litter from the river side and Ilkley Moor and this week a Guide Unit will have been ‘balsam bashing’ along the riverside. Some Brownies recently even created their own recipe for a Fat Rascal in Betty’s kitchen on The Grove.

"There are great opportunities for adventurous nights away, in hostels or under canvas, if that is what you like to do. There is something for everyone in Girlguiding.

"But as ever we need more adult help. If you feel you could give the time to help out in whatever capacity please give this some thought. You can choose to work with the age group you prefer: Rainbows 4-7 years; Brownies 7-10 years; Guides 10-14 years; Rangers 14-18 years; Inspire 18-30 years (currently no group in Wharfedale).

"Currently the Ranger Unit in Burley-in-Wharfedale is looking for two adults to work with its members from September this year.

"A Brownie Unit in Ben Rhydding needs additional help as does a Guide Unit in Ilkley centre and a Rainbow Unit in Addingham.
