AMNESTY Wharfedale is delighted to be screening the 2023 Ken Loach film The Old Oak as part of National Refugee Week.
The screening takes place on Sunday, June 23 at 7.30pm at Ilkley Playhouse.
The bar will be open before (from 7pm) and after the screening. There will be information available from the local Amnesty branch and an optional discussion about the film in the bar afterwards.
The Old Oak pub is the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once-thriving mining community in North East England. The landlord, TJ Ballantyne, hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his hold is endangered even more when the pub becomes contested territory after the arrival of Syrian refugees.
A spokesperson said: "All are welcome to watch this important and very topical film. Funds raised will be sent to Amnesty International. Please note this is a Certificate 15 film (so no under 15s). Tickets are £10 (students £6) and tickets can be purchased online in advance via the Ilkley Playhouse or on the door."
